RIP LITTLE BROTHER...

Just over two weeks ago I got the most awful phonecall imaginable from my mum...the police had just arrived at her door to tell her that my brother Stuart had hung himself at home...I fell to pieces and I would like to share these word that are doing the rounds on Facebook at the moment...

Given the recent news about Gary Speed I just want to highlight again the reality that someone can be hurting very much without showing outward signs, so the next time you feel like judging or being nasty to someone, take a step back and ask yourself: Is that person struggling on the inside? More people have been there than you will ever know. Depression and Anxiety disorders ARE NOT a sign of weakness. They are signs that you've been trying to be strong for too long. Put this on your wall if you, or someone you know, suffers or has suffered. Most people will not due to the stigma attached, but stats show that 1 in 3 of us will suffer from this at some point in life....so judge now at your peril, because you reap what you sow!!!

RIP Stuart and I hope you are at peace now...I will miss you!!

  1. Oh, Kirsti, I'm so sorry to read this news. How very tragic for your family. My husband's long time friend took his own life by hanging a year ago last month and it was devastating news. It still sticks with us and makes us wonder what we could have done to make things different. If your brother was anything like our friend, Ron, he sufferred in silence for a long time. Knowing he is at peace now isn't much comfort for a grieving family, I know.

It's always hard to find the right words for something like this. I'm glad you shared this on your blog and are able to reach out to others here and on Facebook. I'm sending a prayer to you and your family at this very sad time. Much love to you! ♥

  9. Kirsti, my heart goes out to you and your family at this time.

People should know that mental health/coping issues are closer than they ever realise and just because someone LOOKS ok on the outside; you never know what issues they are facing on the inside.

    Take care sweetie.

  16. I don't know you, I followed your link on the new postcard challenge on art-and-sole.blogspot.com, but I wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. In my work (I work with eating disorder patients) I have seen what depression can do, and how sometimes there seems to be no other way out...
Wishing you and your family all the strenght to cope with this terrible loss.

  21. Kristi ~
I have just discovered your blog, and am so sorry for your loss.
My own brother, who was very dear to me, was struck and killed by a car three nights before Christmas 14 years ago. (He had turned 39 just nine days earlier.) I was thoroughly shattered, but tried to be strong for everyone. (No one knew I spent several hours every morning crying.) Though our brothers died under different circumstances, the loss those left behind feel is equally painful. I will say a prayer for you and for your late brother. I wish you comfort and healing. I'm also sending you a big hug. Thank you for sharing.
